This was our second year attending the Air Force Ball. It's a great excuse for date night and a chance to get all dressed up! This year they had Tops in Blues, an Air Force entertainment group, come perform just for us, it was pretty cool.

Mamaw Comes To Visit

Mamaw came to stay with us for a month to visit and to help out when Kristian had his surgery. We celebrated her first night here by going to one of our favorite Italian restaurants, Roma's, in Speicher.

Grand Opening of Ramstein Mall

We were able to go down for the grand opening of the mall on Ramstein AFB and I'm so glad we were. They had so much to see and even some amazing artists on hand showing off what they do best! How often to you get to see actual Hummel figurines being painted or authentic German beer steins being hand carved? Amazing! An oppertuninty I'm glad we were able to have!

Our 7th Anniversary/ Bad Durkheim Winefest

For our anniversary we decided to head to Bad Durkheim for Germany's largest winefest. The festival was huge and there were so many people! Afterwards, we headed to Ramstein for dinner at Macaroni Grill. It was a nice way to spend our anniversary and I look forward to many more with my wonderful husband, the love of my life.

First Day of Gymnastics

This is Eliza's 2nd year taking gymnastics but this is Kristian's first time taking it. Both were so excited for class. Eliza's class is first and goes for a half hour then there is a 15 minute break and then Kristian's class is the next half hour. I'm so glad my kids found something they love doing!

USO Sesame Street Live

The USO brought Sesame Street to our base! This was such a cool thing that the USO put on for the military and the kids loved it. Not only was the show free but the kids got free Elmo light spinners and USO bandanas. We got there early and were able to get a great spot up close. The kids had so much fun, thanks USO!

An Afternoon in Trier

Kristian had a doctor's appointment down in Trier so we decided to make an entire afternoon of it. Of course we started with lunch at Fuji Sushi and then spent some time walking around the walkplatz. It was a good, relaxing way to spend some quality time together.

Manderscheid Jousting Festival

This is a yearly event that takes place at the Manderscheid castle ruins and this was our first year in attendance. You get in at a discounted rate if you dress up so the kids and I wore costumes. It was very warm that day and the kids got cranky after only a couple hours so we did not stay for the actual jousting but had a good time nontheless.

The New Ramstein Mall

We took a trip to Ramstein to check out their new mall and to eat at Macaroni Grill for my early birthday dinner. It might be over an hour away but it is as close to American shopping and food as we will get here!

Pig Fest Wittlich, Germany

This is our second year attending Pig Fest. We went one day with the kiddos and another time with some friends. This is the story behind the festival:

"The little story why the people of Wittlich are called Saeubrenner (people who burn the pigs)
In the medieval age, they closed the city gates each evening, because they were afraid of the ennemy. One evening, the guard didn't find the bolt to close the door. So he took a carot instead of the bolt - and the door was closed.
In the middle of the night, a pig came, saw the carot and ate it. What happened: Yes, of course, the door opened and the ennemy entered the town. The people were very very angry and decided to punish the pigs.
So they made a big fire and hunted all the pigs on the market place and burnt them!"

Eliza's 3rd Birthday

Dan's brother Matt flew in to Burbank Airport to come see us for a few days and the whole family decided to go and hit up Bob's afterwards. Getting a shake is an absolute necessity as is getting Blue Cheese dressing on your salad!

Sea World

Dan and I decided to spend an extra day in San Diego and hit up Sea World! They have a program called "Here's to the Heroes" and military ID holders get in for free! It was nice to have just the two of us and spend the day together.

Day 2- Old Town & Karaoke

We spent day 2 in Old Town shopping! Everyone split into different groups according to what they wanted to do. We all got together for lunch at a delicious Mexican restaurant and then split ways again. Later, we all gathered and chilled at the rental house before getting ready to go out for karaoke. Another great day!

San Diego- Day 1

Dan and I got together with my "computer friends" for the weekend in San Diego. These women are the greatest bunch of women evah!!!! Dan and I checked into our hotel and then met up with everyone. We went to see a musician one of the girls had interviewed named Tom Fruend. Great music + great friends = a great night!

Lilo & Stich Aloha Breakfast

I was so excited to take the kids to this! They love Lilo & Stitch and I heard wonderful reveiws about the breakfast. We were not dissappointed! It was a later breakfast so there weren't that many people there and the kids got tons of attention from the characters. The breakfast was delicious, all around a great morning! Afterwards, we went to Downtown Disney while Dan and I waited for friends we were meeting up with.

Disneyland Hotel & Neverland Pool

I decided, just as a treat, we would spend one night at the Disneyland Hotel. Plus, we got a Military discount on the room! Our room was really nice with great touches of Disney all over the room, a Disney nerd's paradise! We spent the day at the Neverland Pool. Of course, Peter Pan is one of my favorite Disney movies so I was happy and the kids loved it! Dan, Gerry and I switched off playing with the kids so we could each have a turn on the waterslide! We finished off the day with dinner at House of Blues and walking around Downtown Disney.

Day 2 at Disneyland

This was our last day at the parks. We tried to finish up what we didn't do the first day but still weren't able to do everything we wanted. I think my favorite part of the day was going on Nemo's Submarine Voyage for the first time! I still remember the old submarines and loved them but the kids had never been on. I loved the way the ride turned out, Disney never fails to amaze me! The kids would not have been happy without a ride on It's a Small World and I was excited to see the changes they made in adding Disney characters to the ride. I was happy with how they added characters without making the ride all about them, very tasteful. Dan's friend, Allen, was able to join us for a couple hours and Kristian took right to him. This was our last day with my parents, they flew home the next morning. It was a great ending to our time in the parks!

Even after going to Disney World and Paris Disneyland, Disneyland in California will always be my favorite. I think it just holds so many special memories for me. I love being able to take my children there now and creating all new memories. We really had a great time. We did half the park and saved the other half for the next day!

Before her makeover

This derserves it's own thread! Both kids had such fun getting made over! Eliza got the Princess treatment and Kristian was transformed into a knight. Eliza loved being pampered and was very excited to get her hair and make up done like a real princess! She was even given a tiara, ring and princess sash! Kristian's makeover included a sheild and sword! After the makeovers, we were able to get a photo shoot done! It was a wonderful way to start the day!

California Adventure

Our first of three park days at Disneyland Resort was spent at California Adventure. I was very excited to see a map of all the changes they are making to the park and can't wait until it is completed! We had a great day and finished off with dinner at Ariel's Grotto with all the Princesses! One day down, two to go!

Oxnard & Uncle Denny's Boat

We were able to spend a day with my Uncle Denny and go out on his boat. My parents and my Uncle Johnny met us there for the day. The kids loved the boat, it was so much fun! When we were done, we went to play on the beach for a while then back to Uncle Denny's for dinner and socializing. My cousin Jason came over and brought his daughter Audrey who is 5 days older than Kristian. We had a great time!

Leaving for California!

We were able to catch a Space A flight from our base straight to California! Space A flying is free for Military as long as there is room on the plane. The kids thought it was so cool being right next to huge trucks in the plane and they were even allowed to go up to the cock pit to look out the window! The flight was 13 hours long but we were able to get up and walk around, sit on the floor and even lay on the floor to sleep. Definitely not your typical flight!

This was my first year and I loved it! They pick themes every year and this year was TV shows. Our squadron picked Survivor. Everyone was so creative with their themes with costumes to decor to their skits! I will definitely be going again next year!

Cochem Castle

The last day of my parent's trip we decided to go to Cochem Castle before I dropped them off in Frankfurt. It is such an amazing castle inside and out and the views are incredible! Info found on the internet: It is generally assumed that Cochem Castle was built around the year 1000. When the troupes of King Louis XIV (called Sun King) invaded the Rhine and the Moselle area in the war of succession of the Palatinate, Cochem castle, too, was occupied in 1688. After the town had been completely occupied by French troupes in March 1689, the castle was set on fire, undermined and blown up on May 19th of 1689. The castle remained in ruins until 1868, when a Berlin business- man, Mr. Louis Ravené, bought the castle grounds and the ruins. Shortly after his purchase he began to rebuild Cochem Castle incorporating the remains of the late Gothic buildings into the main castle structure.

Manderscheid Castle

The upper castle was mentioned as far back as 973 AD as a donation to the archbishop of Trier, it is one of the oldest castles in the Eifel region. It was in posession of the Trier archbishops until it was destroyed by French troops in 1673. The lower castle was built in the second half of the 12th century and was destryed by French revolution troops in 1794 ending aristocratic rule in the Eifel region. There was something going on while we were there but we're not quite sure what. There were people in costumes of warriors and ogres, slightly creepy.

Abtei Himmerod

It is a very beautiful place to visit and has great scenery for pictures!

Eifel Park

My parent's came to visit while Dan is gone and we decided to check out this place in Bitburg called Happy Land. Some of the American moms have nicknamed it Crappy Land but we decided to try it out. Well, the kids had a blast but I do not ever want to go back again. It was very unorganized and there was no control what-so-ever but I'm glad the kids had fun. Painting Outside

We had an amazing warm spring day and spent almost all day outside. The kids played and Dan and I sat and enjoyed the sun. Kristian has been asking to paint so I decided it was as good a time as any and painting outside makes less mess for me to clean up! (Always an added bonus!) Getting Out The Backyarrd Toys!

Throughout the past year we have aquired quite a few outdoor toys since I feel the kids are going to be at a good age this summer to spend a lot of time outside. The weather was decent enough (for Germany in March, lol) that we decided to play outside. The kids had a blast and I had to bribe them with a movie to come inside after almost 2 hours! I can't wait until it's warm enough to get the baby pool out there, too!

Cupcakes for Kristian's Class

Kristian's 1st Big Owie

We got a call from the German Kindergarten that Kristian had an "accident" and to come get him. I thought it unusual because he has a change of clothes in his backpack and they usually don't call for that. Dan went over to pick him up and I met them at the front door to see Kristian with a good sized gash on the side of his left eye. Dan took Kristian to the ER and he got bandaged up (no stitches) and has been such a brave boy about the whole ordeal. He's actually handling it better than I am. I am so glad it wasn't worse and am so proud of my brave boy.

I decided to try my hand at taking pictures by doing Eliza's 2 1/2 year pics myself. This way I am bettering my skill and saving money at the same time! I took her across the street to the playground of the Dudeldorf Kindergarten and did my best! Harry Potter Convention

I took the kids to a Harry Potter convention on base. I got Kristian a Slytherin robe to wear and he went as Draco Malfoy. Both kids had so much fun participating in games, making candy wands and winning prizes! Eliza won a wand that lights up and makes noises and Kristian won a replica of the Sorting Hat, very cool! Hopefully Daddy will be able to join us at next year's convention!

Fun Family Day!

We decided to take a trip to IKEA yesterday but not the one we usually go to. We went to one in Saarlouis which is close to Ramstein Base because Ramstein has a Chili's! We spent a good 5 hours at IKEA and spent 460 Euro! We bought Kristian a new bed and storage furniture to organize the kids rooms. Seriously, I have an IKEA addiction!

After IKEA we went to Volgeweh Base and went to their BX which is like a mall compared to our little pathetic one here! We got a PS3, I got Dan a Nintendo DS for his V-Day present and he got me a new camera! We also got a tent so we can take the kids camping this summer! I think they are at a good age now.

We finally got to Chili's around 9PM after I met up with a lady for what's comparable to our Craigslist and bought the Twilight hardback set for $50! I ate my favorite Quesadilla Explosion Salad and Dan got the Fajita Trio. The kids both got nothing other than Mac & Cheese. I swear they would eat that every day if they could! Enjoy our pics! The German Kindergarten is getting the kids excited about the upcoming Carnival or Fasching and have put up circus type decor throughout the school and today they painted the kids faces like clowns. Kristian was very happy about his clown face and can't wait for Carnival!

Wittlich Pig Fest

Wittlich (pronounced with a "V") is about 20 minutes down the Autobahn from us and every August they have Pig Fest. Here's an explanation of the festival that I found:

According to legend, Wittlich was once a walled fortress constantly under attack by invaders. One evening, a guard in charge of locking the gate to the besieged town could not find the peg to secure the fortified door. All he could find was a large carrot to wedge in the door. Later, a pig ate the carrot, the gate opened and the enemy came in. After the enemy ransacked the town, the angry townspeople herded every pig into the town’s market square and roasted them. Since then, the town of Wittlich has been known as the town of the pig burners. Once a year, the community of Wittlich holds an annual festival that attracts thousands of visitors.

We got there right as the parade was starting and then walked around checking everything out. We stopped by a booth to get some candy, I have never seen so much gummy candy in my life! The pig roasting freaked me out a little, the kids didn't get it at all, lol. It was really warm and we saw some German kids playing in a water fountain so I figured, why not, and let Kristian splash around for a while. Enjoy the pics!

Day at Ramstein & Hooters!

We took a day trip with our friends down to Ramstein Base which is about an hour and a half from here. Their BX is a mall compared to our pathetic one here! They actually have a Chili's on base so we had lunch there and then did some shopping, of course! Before we went home we stopped at Hooters which is the first one in Germany! We had a great time and Kristian even got up on the chair to dance with the Hooters girls! All in all, it was a fun day!

Trier Trip

We took a train trip to Trier while Christina was here. It's only like a 20-30 minute drive from us but the kids love taking the train. We had a great time and I think the kids were able to enjoy it a little more than they did last time we were there. We, of course, had to get some Italian ice cream but I didn't get any pictures this time. Enjoy the pictures!

Manderscheid Castle

Here is the other castle we went to, it is about 40 minutes from our house. It used to be a complete castle but is now ruins but it is still very cool! Kristian got car sick on the way there so we didn't spend a whole lot of time but I was still able to get in some good pictures!

Rittersdorf Castle

Dan's sister, Christina came to visit and we spent a day checking out some local castles. (How cool is that to say?!) The first castle we went to is about a ten minute drive from our house, it's a small castle but a castle nonetheless! It even has a moat that goes all the way around it! Kristian found out we were going and insisted on bringing his sword so he could be the kinght of the castle! I will be posting the other castle we went to seperately!

Eifel Park

This is an amusement park of sorts about 5 minutes from our house. We got season passes (Apr-Sep) back in April and have gone a few times. We decided to go to celebrate Eliza's birthday since Dan had to work the day of. The kids had a blast, as usual, and I got some pretty good shots throughout the day! Eliza's 2 Year Pictures

Our good friend Dani bought this outfit for Eliza's birthday and I knew that she would wear it for her pictures! Our friend Valerie took me & Eliza down to Trier and we had some pictures in front of the Roman baths and the others in front of the "Pink Palace". The pictures turned out incredible, I just can't believe my baby is 2!

Eliza's Birthday Party!

I can't believe my baby is 2! We had a Little Einsteins birthday for Eliza and we set up a baby pool and sprinkler ball in the backyard. The day was beautiful and everything went really well! Even my attempt at a Rocket cake went better than I expected! Within 30 minutes of everyone leaving it was pouring down rain, I couldn't believe it! Eliza had a great time, loves all of her presents and was able to cover herself in cake frosting! All in all it was a great day!

Disneyland Paris

One more Disney park checked off! We never thought we would ever really go to Disneyland Paris even though we wanted to. We had fun but it wasn't the Disney experience we've come to know and love. I'm sure we'll go back again but we'll be more prepared this time around and we'll definitely go during a different time of the year. I do love seeing all the differences in the different parks and seeing the attractions that are exclusive to that particular park. For instance, under the castle they have a dragon's lair with an animatronic dragon that really moves! It's incredible! Also, their Haunted Mansion is called Phantom Manor and has more of an Old West feel than a deep south mansion. Their Space Mountain actually goes upside down about 3 times! But, I do love the comfort of having rides exactly as I know them like Peter Pan and Snow White! Anyway, the kids had a blast and even though we won't be going back anytime soon, we will go back eventually! We were able to drive into Paris our last day there and grab a shot of the Eifel Tower before getting lost for 3 hours (no kidding). Disney Day on Base

How perfect was it that the base decided to do Disney Family Day on base the day before we left for Disneyland Paris? I thought it was just too good to be true! They showed Disney movies for the kids, had a trivia cntest for the adults and had a costume contest, of course! Dan and I tied with 2 other people for the trivia contest, Eliza won the kids costume contest and I won the costume contest for the adults (of course I was the only adult dressed up but whatever!). It was a lot of fun and a perfect way to start off our Disney week!

Bitburg Folk Festival

We ventured out to Bitburg's Annual Folk Festival complete with beer keg races! The base fire department actually entered the race against the Germans, it was pretty funny. I love going to the local festivals because they always have great entertainment and really cool craft booths. We got Kristian a handmade wooden sword and the guy burnt Kristian's name onto the blade, too cool! They had a full on biergarten and had dancers from different countries performing. We stopped by one of the many German bakeries before we left and Eliza devoured the roll we got her! We really had a lot of fun! The last picture is when we went out to dinner with some friends that night, Eliza was really into her spaghetti and wanted to make sure she got every last bit, too funny!

Explore The Eifel Fair

I guess the base has this every year which is really nice. They invite a representative from areas around the Eifel region (that's where we live) to set up a booth and hand out info about their area. The following week all active duty get a few days off to go "explore the Eifel". I guess you have to have proof to turn in otherwise you get in trouble because if you don't go "explore" you have to come to work. I wouldn't be really clear on this since it doesn't apply to firefighters, of course. Anyway......I really wanted to go the the fair but Dan had to work so I took the kids on my own. Unfortunately thus far, most of our time in Koblenz (this is our 2nd trip) has been spnt at IKEA (I'm an addict, what can I say?). We stopped on our way there to get some pics of the kids in front of these flower field that I swear are EVERYWHERE right now! I'm not sure what they are but they made for cute pics! he others are from IKEA and then around Koblenz. The Rhein and Mosel rivers meet in Koblenz and it is a pretty big city. Kristian loves our backyard!

Kristian and I spent some one on one time the other day in the backyard playing. He had a blast and even after over an hour he still did not want to come in. I told him not to play near the big tree because there might be spiders and so he pretended the tree was Sharptooth and was determined to stay away from it. At one point, his ball rolled over to the tree and Kristian ran after it. K-Mommy, Sharptooth has my ball! M-Well go get it from him K-Sharptooth, that is my ball and you can't ever have it again! He also decided to try to talk to a spider and when I told him spiders don't talk he said "Oh yeah, only happy spiders talk, not dirty spiders" About 10 minutes later he was trying to talk to the rocks which I got a picture of. K-Hey rocks, how are you? M-Kristian are you talking to the rocks? K-Yeah, Hey rocks I said hello! M-Kristian, rocks don't talk K-Oh yeah, bye rocks! He is such a crazy boy, it makes me love him even more!

A walk around our village on May Day

After eating lunch at a yummy German restraunt called Torschanke (Gate Tavern), we decided to take a little stroll around our village. This area is literally like 2 blocks from our house. It is so neat being around so much history. It is said that General Patton drove his tanks through the 2 arches in town and that is why there are deep grooves on the inside of the arches. The arches were built in 1452 and there is a castle (more like a mansion) that was built in the 1800s that replaced a much older castle but I don't know all the facts. You will see a picture of our village's Maypole from the May Day celebration. I love living here, I just wish I would have paid more attention in history class!

Why I should not be naked around my kids

If you're going to take offense, that's just silly and don't bother reading on. But, if you think toddlers are so naive that you just want to have a good laugh then please read on. I was getting out of the shower and Kristian comes in the bathroom. (M=Me, K=Kristian) M-Kristian, please go away, Mommy's naked. K-But I want to see your boobies. M-You have your own boobies, where are they? K-(Points to his) Right here but you have BIG boobies. (sounding very exagerated) I am at this point shocked and slightly embarrased at my son's intrest and I call for Dan to come get him and I shut the door. Yeah, I think it's time for a little more modesty and privacy around here!

Our Trip To Trier

As part of a newcomers group through the base, we took a train down to the city of Trier, Germany's oldest city. I'll only post a few pics but you can click on the link on the right side of the page to take you to our Picasa albums and look at ALL the pics I took in the April album. Kristian absolutely loved riding the train and he got to go up to the front with our tour guide, Easter. I think he had a crush on her and she even taught him some German! This city is only 30 minutes from us and is rich with history. It used to be ruled by the Romans and their are Roman ruins still standing. Our New Home (as of next week)

Next week we are finally moving into a home where we plan to be for the next 4 years! We will be living in the village of Dudeldorf, Germany! We love the house and it has a great location! Our van arrived last week and we found out that our unaccompanied baggage is here and waiting for a delivery date! Enjoy the pics, I will post more once we start settling in!

Bathtime Tooshies

I do believe that we humiliate our children most with pictures of them in the bath. I do also believe that we get the cutest pictures of them at bathtime. So, now that I have stated my beliefs to you, here is what I believe to be some really cute pictures and what some day my children will believe to be the most humiliating pictures ever. What fun is being a mom if you can't embarass your kids every now and then? My mom taught me that and I'm sure it was my grandma that taught it to her. Now for the explanation: Since we are waiting to move into our house and our alloted time in TLF is up, we are staying with some of our very good friends. They have twin boys who are a year older then Kristian and a newborn baby boy. We decided it wold be fun (and make for cute pictures) if we gave all 3 older boys a bath together (Kristian is in the middle). Eliza did not like the fact that she had to wait her turn and decided to try and join them. Fortunately for me, her attempt was unsuccesful but made for a super cute picture! Lastly, Eliza has what we call her tushy-shakin'-dance and was showing it off when she got done with her bath. My friend did get some video but I just have to figure out how to get it on here.
